Contact Lens Exam

Getting the right start with your contact lenses involves going to an eye care professional who provides comprehensive service. Contact lenses are considered prescription devices, just like pharmaceuticals. Therefore, they must be prescribed and properly fitted by an eye care professional.

The contact lens fitting/evaluation process involves a thorough eye examination and an evaluation of your suitability to wear contact lenses. Supplemental tests need to be done in addition to your routine eye examination to evaluate your candidacy for successful contact lens use. Considerations such as your ocular and general health and the measurement of your corneal curvature, spectacle prescription, and visual needs must be assessed. Our doctors will then choose the appropriate contact lenses for your eyes for proper fit and alignment.

Follow-up Appointments and Training for Contact Lens Care

Follow-up appointments are necessary to ensure a successful fit. During the contact lens fitting/evaluation process, our doctors may request you to return to our office for follow-up visits. These follow-up visits are important to allow any necessary mechanical or optical refinements in lens prescription, monitor adaptation and minimize ocular complications, and reinforce appropriate contact lens care. All of your contact lens follow-up visits for the first 3 months are included in the initial contact lens professional fee, whether you need to be seen once or ten times.

For first time wearers, individual instructions on lens care, maintenance, and handling are further given.  The importance of proper hygiene and compliance with contact lens care techniques are stressed during the training process.
